Do not disconnect, again.

The iPod's biggest flaw so far on the PC at least is this DO NOT DISSCONNECT message, I have been wanting to listen to it all night and have not wanted to restart to see if I can get this "plug and play" device to give me approval to uplug the stupid thing. MusicMatch Jukebox is the biggest peice of shit software I have ever used.

Update: 3/30/03: Since I get hits on this topic pretty frquently I decided to update the post. For me updating Music Match did the trick every once in a whiel I have to resart my computer if the iPod has been connected for a long period of time. There are some resorces out there:

The ipodlunge forums are a good place to start.

Update 7/25/2003: Anyone find this useful, anyone fix thier problem? Leave a comment.

Update 9/1/2003: I now find the best way to get the iPod to disconnect from the PC is to go to My Computer and right click the iPod as a removable drive and choose eject, it no longer "sticks" in Do not mode.

I was having the same problem and then figured that "Do Not Disconnect" is actually a good message. It means that it is ready to be opened and to accept files. So you do not need to wait forever. If MusicMatch does not have the plugin go to http://partners.musicmatch.com/archives/iPodSetup.mmz

Cheers!

Use iTunes!!!!! - Now for windows too!

so far my ipod has given me nothing but problems, im begining to think it is simply a very expensive peice of shit, it will not accept files from itunes or mmjb, my computer meets all of the system requriements, both my usb and firewire work fine, the ipod is formatted to comply with windows and ive updated all imaginable software involved with ipod, itunes, mmjb. what the hell is the problem? ive been working with the thing for a month and have yet to listen to a song on the dam thing, i get much more use from it as a paperweight. What else can i do?

Have you contacted Apple for your free support?

Sorry this ain't really related but it's really pissing me off; I bought a new CD the other day and I want to rip the tracks to my computer - It won't let me. Everytime it starts it uses it's own crappy little player thing, and when I explore, the audio files are nowhere to be found. Can anyone give me a hand?

Tom,

Your CD is probably copy-protected. Depending on the copy protection scheme, you may be able to get around it - but first you'll have to uninstall whatever software the CD installed in the first place.

Do a Google search on "cd copy protection remove" and find which seems to describe your particular situation.

You'll also need to turn off "CD autoplay" in Windows - otherwise it'll just get installed again.

Also might be worthwhile to write to the record label and complain. They are interfering with your fair use of a legally purchased product.

why internet are disconnect again and again. And speed is very low give me ans

ya, wen my ipod is connected to the computer we i look in the ipod file it says that the songs are there but they're not

please help me!!!
ive been trying to put my songs from media player onto the ipod and it keeps saying there on there but there not! and the do not disconnect sign is starting to bug me now! please help

Tams, as far as I know the iPod is not compatible with Windows Media Player or WMA files, the only way to transfer songs that are playable on the iPod is via iTunes, and the songs must be MP3's, converted WMA or ACC(MP4) format.

I bought an iPod a week ago, it will not play anything. While it transfers music from iTunes the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" msg displays. It has never played a song...ever. The ipod sees all the music i transferred from iTunes. When i play a song it says its playing but it never does. The status bar that indicates where you are in a song never advances. WTF am i doing wrong? or Did i get a nice white piece of shit too? iTunes recognizes the iPod and even tells me 697mBs have been used. WTF, Steve Jobs can eat my ass.

TONYC, make sure the headphones are pushed all the way into their jack, and that the remote adapter (if you are using it) is plugged all the way in.

My iPod had problems with the remote when I got it, but it was because the headphones were not snapped all the way in the jack. It was a pretty tight fit when I first got it and required a little more effort than you'd expect to get them properly seated in the jack.

Itunes says songs are downloaded, but nothing is on my ipod. my ipod keeps saying "Do not disconnect" is it the ipod or my comp. (it meets all the requirements)idno wat 2 do plz help

hi my ipod is frozen and it says do not disconecct and its not even in the port and i cant do anything how do i sort it out plz

i'm with julez, my ipod isn't even connected to the comp and it's still frozen on "do not disconnect".

I have the same problem as julez, by mistake i disconnected my ipod while the message 'do not disconnect' was displayed and now it is frozen, my comp doesn't recognize it, what should i do? tha

To reset iPod mini, iPod mini (Second Generation), iPod photo, and iPod (Click Wheel)

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

I just wanted to say thanks. I was getting the "do not disconnect" message and about 1/2 hour after I was about to through my Ipod out the window....But then I read your useful notes...

i have an apple ipod and i'm using it on an ibook. i connect my ipod and the computer recognizes it in finder and on the desktop, but itunes and the updater both say that there's no ipod plugged in.... does anyone know what i can do about that?

I have an iPod mini (1st Gen) and I love it.

The only problem that I have is that sometimes when I am at work, I want to connect it to my PC via the USB port so that it will charge, while at the same time listen to some music.

However, when I connect it to the PC, it displays "Do not disconnect" and, although it is charging (flashing indicator), I cannot listen to ths songs.

I cannot install iTunes on my PC at work (strict IT policies) and so I find that I have to charge it for a while, disconnect it and then listen.

My question...

Is there some way that I can force it back into "playing mode" when connected to the PC while still letting it charge???

I have tried "ejecting" the USB device but that switches off the power to the port and so it doesnt charge any more!

Any help would be VERY useful!

Thanks all

i have the same problem too. actually i solved it yesterday but today the problem appears again and i nearly lose my mind because of it hope someone can help me to solve it. my problem is "do not disconnect" message is shown on the screen after i safely removed it from my window. i solved it yesterday by repeating restart the window with the ipod mini that's work. the cause of the problem is transfer data from computer to another computer. i have four computer at my home. both accident happened at one computer and may i know that is that ipod can be influenced by virus. i heard before apple product has less virus than window. but the ipod can be used as harddisk. yesterday after solvind the problem all battery finished within an hour and the ipod asked me to charge it. so i hope someone can help me as soon as possible.

When i plug in my ipod to the usb port it shows "Do not Disconnect" with a Red cirlce flashing. Whats that mean?
Otherwise it works fine, even when it says that message i unplug it and it works %100. but im just wondering what that message means. I hope someone can help me Asap.

I have a 20GB ipod. My problem is that when I attach it to my computer the "Do Not Disconnect" shows up on the iPod screen, but it won't connect to my iTunes like it usually does. Also, when I'm listening to my iPod, the song will just change by itself or a different song will play instead of the song that I selected.

i accidently disconnected my ipod while the message 'do not disconnect' was being displayed and now it is frozen, my comp doesn't recognize it, what should i do? Please help me email me Weetiepie24_7@yahoo.com

My ipod is recognized in the itunes, ok good right. Well after everything is updated and the little bubble in itunes says that "ipod update is complete". My ipod itself won't stop blinking do not disconnect. I ejected it to see what would happen, everything seemed ok. So i plugged it back in and the same situation happened. i don't know what to do. please help, thanks

My daughter's iPod mini plays by itself. It will be sitting there, no one touching it and it will start playing. Is there something she is doing wrong? Is there some auto play functionality? So far I have not seen anyone else with this problem.

My girlfriends iPod does the same thing Brent, turns on by itself and just starts playing. She'll find it playing in the morning with the battery nearly dead... very annoying!

My iPOD 30GB played fine for the last 2 months, but now it will not switch OFF...I keep pressing the scroll as b4, but nothing happens. I am waiting for the battery to discharge..
Any ideas?? I can reset it, but don't wanna loose my songs, I may have to reload them.

Thanks
Goldy
